Common Backyard Birds

One of the most common questions we get asked by those just starting to enjoy their backyard birds is which ones will we find. That’s an understandable question. When you aren’t used to looking for the differences, you will often not realize the variety of birds you have right in your own backyard.

Birds common to typical suburban, or urban, areas can vary from region to region. They can also vary from season to season. Some birds can be seen year round in some locations, while the same species migrates from colder climates during the winter. So you may not see all of these birds all of the time, depending on where you live.

We have put together a series of articles which discusses each of these birds in more depth. As they are added to this site, we will link the name to the article for you. In the meantime, here is our list of common back yard birds. Eighteen in all.

These are all easy to identify. And each is fascinating to watch. Some are tiny, like the finches, while others are large like the crow. But, all are worth learning about.

    We have a friend that has made his lifetime hobby learning and caring for bluebirds. When we owned the golf course, he had bluebird boxes all over the course. He charted/recorded eggs and hatchings. It was really a lot of fun! I love watching any kind of backyard bird!
